Volunteer of the Year Jane Smith Goes from Microchips to Medical Supplies and Mini Clinics
As an electrical engineer, Jane Smith designed microchips for different products and industries. Some chips were used in manufacturing automation, communication devices and wireless networks.
Jane got involved in volunteering with Medworks through her friend and co-worker Donna Kramer, whom Jane calls a “super” volunteer. Jane started volunteering at clinics doing non-medical tasks 12 years ago.
The retired grandmother of five now comes to the MedWish Medworks warehouse every Friday during the morning shift to count and sort medical supplies. She also continues to help with medical, dental and vision clinics.
“We have a great group of volunteers on Fridays,” she said. “We have gathered for lunch after our shift and I hope to do more of that. You DO make friends through volunteering.”
Jane’s Mission Moment:
At the big dental clinic a couple of years ago, there was an older woman who came for dental services. She received a “flipper,” which is a partial denture. Jane recalled, “She had no front teeth and said she usually hid her mouth with her hand. When she left she had the biggest smile. This had a big impact on her life.”
Join us on Thursday to celebrate Jane as our Volunteer of the Year and recognize the invaluable contributions she and all of our volunteers make.
