Retired as Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics in 1998 from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine spending his entire career there, joining the faculty in 1963.
He was Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital from 1968 to 1998 and Chief of the Pulmonary Division from 1969 to1984. In 1997, his social worker in the CF program was Judy Higgins, then one of 4 active leaders of Intervol, now known as MedWish. Her plan was to leave for two years to work with the Peace Corps in the Philippine Islands. She told Carl of the problems that made for the remaining three members. He was familiar enough with Intervol to want to be involved and that prompted him to join Lisa Scott (Beno), Barb Higgins, and Meredith Slosberg, to add his support in 1997. That effort proved successful and he has served as a Board member since incorporation.
